I’m not writing this in defense of anything, but I think the Troy Davis action tonight is a very sobering reminder that the Supreme Court exists to uphold documents that very few of us are familiar with. I do not want to debate this further. I am devastated right now. But it was even more devastating for me to watch my Twitter feed light up with hope that the Supreme Court would do something because, well, it’s the Supreme Court, right? Just because it’s the last stop doesn’t mean it—and the people who compose it—is golden in the way we want it to be.
