Meanwhile, back on Wall Street…

Today I got to work (my office is around the corner from Wall St.) right on time but I was fearful most of the morning because I knew that I had to go to the bank to make a deposit and I was nervous to be carrying lots of cash through the Wall St area with prostesters and cops and every other manner of New York Crazy out there, but as I was making a right onto Broadway from Exchange I saw all of these men. They looked very somber, and I was a little shocked to see them-airline pilots- walking single file from somewhere west, past Trinity Church and down towards the nyse. I didn’t know if it was a funeral or what (you know how you can’t drive through a funeral procession?) but I had to get into the bank, and get off the street, so I made eye contact with one man, who looks a LOT like the man second from the right in the bottom picture and I mouthed something like “Can I cross?” and he just reached out his arm and, very dad-like patted me on the back as he allowed me to cross.

It was just a very human moment in a city full of inhumane events, people, and landscapes. New York can do so much for so many, but at the same time take so much more.
